Multiplex Monitor – India

Big Cinemas gives Mumbai its BIGgest multiplex till date- 9 screens at R-City mall Ghatkopar, Mumbai

Posted on: September 28, 2009

It’s quite apt that Monitorplex launches with a story on India’s newest and Mumbai’s biggest multiplex, correction, Megaplex – Big Cinemas at R-City mall, Ghatkopar, Mumbai. 9 screens, 45 shows per day and 2109 seats screams the splash page on their website. Big Cinemas left no stone unturned in the launch of the property and spent well over Rs. 50 lacs on the occasion – no wonder then that this 75,000 square feet cinema saw one of the most glitzy launch parties in a while.

The property launched with the opening of the movie Dil Bole Hadippa with the movie’s stars Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukherji turning up for the event. The event also witnessed an appearance by the crew of What’s your Rashee which released within weeks of the property’s launch. Needless to mention, the absolutely gorgeous Priyanka Chopra was also present to promote her latest movie, after her last smash hit, Kaminey.

For now, I will leave you with pictures of the launch and from the official press kit. I will reserve comments and opinions on it till I personally visit the property on October 1st, 2009.  But at first glance, the cinema seems to have nailed the experience on most counts – especially the cafeteria and the premium seating classes. Take a look at the pictures and opine for yourselves. For those of you who’ve already been there, please feel free to leave me with your comments.
